The first child of Ernest William Thomas Miller and Daphne May Law was born on 13 May 1947 at 9 Goring Way in Greenford, Middlesex. Susan (Sue) was educated in Malta and at the grammar Havant in Hampshire. When Sue was at school in Malta she had to go to a convent school but that was very short lived. She was taken out after she showed her dislike of the school and the nuns by throwing her lunchtime soup over a nun. The phrase “it's in my desk” that is fondly remembered by Daphne came from Sue. When ever she had forgotten to bring something home it was always “in my desk”.

Sue was determined to join the Army but when she was away on a school trip she fell and damaged a knee. So before she was able to join up she had to endure a knee operation in Alton Hospital. Sue joined the WRAC at the age of 17 and a half passing out from Guilford.

Sue was christened on 13 December 1964 St Martins, Garrison Church, Caterick Camp in Yorkshire.

It was in the Army that she met her husband Anthony (Tony) John Chapman. They were married on 5 November 1965 at St. Mary's Church on Hayling Island Hampshire.

Susan died at home on 19 November 1997 after a long illness.
