Robert Benjamin LAW was born on 17 Apr 1860 in Smarden, Kent.⁵² He was living on 2 Apr 1871 in Days Cottages, Smarden, Kent.²⁵ He was living on 3 Apr 1881 in 1 Mill Lane, Borden, Kent.²³ He was living on 5 Apr 1891 in Flishinghurst, Cranbrook, Kent.⁶³ He was living on 31 Mar 1901 in Cranbrook, Kent.⁶⁴ He died on 9 May 1930 in 2 Dudley Road, Norwood.²⁸ According to his death certificate Robert was a Hosier and Outfiter and died from an "auricular fibrillation". Robert appears twice on teh 1881 census. Firstly as the head of the household in Borden Kent living with his mother and father, Eliza and Robert, and his sister Anne. He then shows up as a visiting the Bently's at Podkin farm in Biddenden where Betsy, his future wife, lives with her parents.

When he got married in 1881, Robert was a grocer. By the time that Roland Victor was born in April 1888 we know that Robert was now a grocer and draper. This is verified by the marriage certificate of his son Raymond Robert James.

Based on 1901 census, Robert had become a Clerk and Millers Traveller.

When his son Roland married Elizabeth Victoria Benson in July 1919 Robert had changed his stated profession to being a wardrobe dealer.

The Benjamin part of Robert's name is not on his birth certificate. This was found later on the marriage certificate of his son Raymond Robert James Law.

Robert Benjamin LAW and Betsey BENTLEY were married on 18 Apr 1881 in Particular Baptist Chapel, Smarden.²¹ Betsey BENTLEY (daughter of James BENTLEY and Sarah CARTER) was born on 26 Jun 1860 in Biddenden, Kent.^21,65,66,67 The "E" in Bentley has been dropped by the regsitrar when the entry was recorded. She was living on 7 Apr 1861 in Steed Quarter, Biddenden, Kent.⁶⁸ She was living on 5 Apr 1891 in Flishinghurst, Cranbrook, Kent.⁶³ She was living on 31 Mar 1901 in Cranbrook, Kent.⁶⁴ Betsy is a scholar on the 1871 census. Robert Benjamin LAW and Betsey BENTLEY had the following children:
