However in the 1881 census it looks like Jesse was ill or injured as he is shown as a patient in the Cottage Hospital, Ashford, Kent.

Charles GURR was born in 1856 in Smarden, Kent.7 He was living on 2 Apr 1871 in 2 Jubilee House, Smaren, Kent.10 He was living on 3 Apr 1881 in Jubilee, Smarden, Kent.11 On the 1871 census Charles was possibly working with his brother Jesse as he is shown as a "Timber Splitter". By the 1881 census he was a "Hurdle Maker".
