Margaret HERBERT. Virginia Margaret HERBERT and George Shakespeare
VASIL were married on 7 Nov 1942 in Topeka, Kansas, USA. George
Shakespeare VASIL was born on 4 Feb 1916 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
He was also known as Darwin. George was born Darwin Shakespeare
Vasil changing his name when he came of age.
Served as an Army Air Corps Lieutenant as a navigator on B-17. He was made a
POW after being shot down over Germany. The next three years were spent in Stalag
17 the camp immortalized in the film and book "The Great Escape".
It was during that during his time as a POW that Goerge found out, through the
Red Cross, about the birth of his eldest son.
After the war he became an attorney and re-entered the Air Force in that capacity
retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
After retiring, George became an active volunteer and became the president of
Vincent Du Pauls, a Catholic charity in Spokane. Virginia Margaret HERBERT and
