Second Generation

2. George MILLER was born on 28 Feb 1801 in Bletchingley, Surrey.3,6 The 1851 Census says George was born in Bletchingley, Surrey. The 1861 Census gives his palce of birth as Godstone, Surrey and makes the year of his birth 1799. He was christened on 8 Mar 1801 in Saint Saviour, Southwark, Surrey.6 He was living on 30 Mar 1851 in 1 Orange Tree Row, Wilmington, Kent.7 He died on 1 Mar 1865 in Orange Tree Place, Wilmington, Kent.2 Labourer.
Agriculture Labourer.

When George died in 1865 his certificate says that he was 70 years old making him born in 1795 so there is some confusion as to his correct birth compaired to the IGI information. It may well be that Elizabeth Booker (nee Miller) who was present at his death may not have remembered his exact age.

When he died of "Epilepsy Exhaustion" he was working as a labourer at the Powder Mills.

George MILLER and Jane WHITEHEAD were married before 1826. Jane WHITEHEAD was born about 1803 in Farningham, Kent.3 She was living on 30 Mar 1851 in 1 Orange Tree Row, Wilmington, Kent.7 She died after 1871.8 Shown on the 1871 Census as still living in Orange Tree Place with her daughter Emma, her grandson William and Thomas Conaway (Border). George MILLER and Jane WHITEHEAD had the following children:

Emma MILLER was born in 1830 in Wilmington, Kent.8,9 She died on 3 Nov 1918. She was buried on 8 Nov 1918 in Havelock Cemetery, Southall. I have been told that she looked after William George when he was young and that he subsequently cared for her in her latter years. This story is supported by the fact that when she died in the influenza epidemic of 1918 he had her buried at Havelock Road Cemetery, Southall, grave 94c, in which he and Emily were also buried in 1931. There is no gravestone, the information about her age at the time of her death came from records now held in Ealing. Her identity is confirmed by that age matching that shown in the census of 1851.

Although Emma does not appear on the census for 1851 and1861 the census of 1871 Emma is shown still living with her mother, Jane, at 4 Orange Tree Place, Wilmington, Kent. However, in the 1881 census Jane is no longer to be found
and Emma appears a General Servant for a John Ticehurst, a retired butcher and his wife also Emma (nee Buckland). The Ticehursts where living at 16 River Court Road, Hammersmith, London.

NB. Thanks to Kevin Sutton for pointing out that the LDS transcription for Emma Miller's employers is incorrect. The LDS shows them as Lickhurst.
